Abstract

Synthesizig the influential factors on sports and physical activity for the elderly in Iran. This research follows a qualitative research methodology and is categorized as a meta-synthesis study. The study population consisted of qualitative studies in Persian and English available in the country's academic databases and university libraries from the years 2011 to 2021. Fifteen studies were selected for review based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. To collect data from primary research, a designed checklist was utilized. To ensure the quality, validity, and reliability of the extracted codes, the validity of the codes was assessed. The analysis of the primary research involved two stages of coding (open and axial), followed by the aggregation of themes and their classification into broader categories. The findings indicated that sports and physical activity for the elderly in Iran are influenced by five main categories of psychological factors, social factors, cultural factors, economic factors, and organizational factors. Based on this result, it can be concluded that sports and physical activity for the elderly in Iran are influenced by multiple factors, and emphasizing a single criterion or specific indicator alone cannot facilitate the participation of the elderly in sports.
