Abstract

In today's industrialized world, the place of activities has changed, walking has been a major requirement for movement and physical activity in the past. Currently, vehicles have been largely replaced and have provided reasons for people's inactivity. On the other hand, walking is cheap and available. The purpose of this research is to design a model for developing recreational sport activities with an emphasis on walking. To advance the research, the qualitative method and grounded theory were used. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 23 experts using the purposeful sampling method. The number of people was selected in order to ensure more confidence of the researcher after reaching theoretical saturation. The identified variables were categorized in the form of components using open, central and selective coding. 27 conceptual codes and 22 main categories were identified. Based on the findings of this research, the causal conditions include: "Insight", "Culture", "Active Leisure", "role model orientation", "Integrated Management" and "Inertia". Intervening conditions include: "ideology", "physical", "monopoly", "technology" and "universal factors". The background conditions include: "standard urban development", "security" and "legal support". The strategies include "macro-viewing", "education", "technical measures", "regulation" and "advocacy" and the consequences include "pedestrian city", "pedestrian-oriented city" and "social development". It is suggested that by using the factors found in this research, the stakeholders should develop walking as a public sport.
